Speaking

Guy Pearse's understanding of how politics works, his particularly strong grasp of the politics of climate change, and his journey from political staffer to lobbyist to 'whistleblower' make him both unique and ideal as a speaker for industry conferences, company boards, broking houses, environmental fora, and university seminars.

Guy spent most of his career avoiding the limelight--as a political adviser and speechwriter, and as a lobbyist seeking to achieve outcomes for clients behind the scenes. Since the release of High & Dry, he has had to adapt quickly to being in the spotlight and to giving rather than writing speeches.

Since July 2007 Guy has given over 20 speeches to a wide range of different audiences including: The Adelaide Festival of Ideas, the Walk Against Warming, the Byron Bay Writers Festival, Melbourne Writers Festival, Sustainability Breakfasts (sponsored by Lexmark), Politics in the Pub, the Sunshine Coast Environment Awards, and the Institute of Environmental Studies at UNSW. He has also spoken to a host of different Climate Action Groups in the lead up to the 2007 federal election.

If you are interested in having Guy speak at your next conference, board meeting, seminar or lecture program contact ICMI on 02-9686-7714 to see what can be arranged. Guy will consider approaches from most organisations in Australia, and internationally. Presentations are tailor made to suit different audiences, but the following topics are a guide to the sort of speech he might give to your organisation:

* How the Greenhouse Mafia captured Kevin Rudd and Labor

* A whistleblower's tale -- when career plans and ethics collide

* Quarry Vision -- the dangers of Australia's 'commodity boomer' mentality

* Climate change and what lies ahead for Australian business/society

* Sustainability -- how to be taken seriously as an industry/company

* High & Dry -- How John Howard and the Liberal Party failed on climate change
